happy 2010 and my favourite photos of 2009!

2010. Sounds futuristic doesn't it?

Well, if 2009 was unkind to my scrapbooking mojo, it didn't seem to impact the sheer volume of photos I took! As scrapbooking evolves for me, winds down a bit even, I don't think I will ever lose my love of being behind the camera. It's where I feel creative, it's where I feel happy, it's where I like to be!

As difficult as choosing 'favourites' is, here are a few that I love, for one reason or another (very photo heavy!):

 

I could keep adding, ha ha! Love love love a good picture, and I love the reaction people have when they love them too!

We were lucky enough to usher in the New Year with great friends, a little bit of champagne and a little bit of chocolate - perfect!

happy new year's eve!

Wow, another year has come to and end - crazy isn't it? 2009 did not see a lot of scrapbooking from me, and unfortunately 2010 isn't looking a whole lot better!  However, thought I'd share some of my favourite pages and projects from 2009 here on the old blog:

A few things are clear:  I LOVE white cardstock. I am very inspired by music. I love bright graphic patterned paper. I love having fun with fonts. I'm not a very 'trendy' scrapbooker. I love starting a page with a great photograph! Have a great new year's eve and I'll be back 'next year' with my favourite photos of 2009. As always, thanks for stopping by!

s&ct winter issue!

Have you had a chance to look through the winter issue of scrapbook and cards today yet? Another fabulous issue!!

For this issue, my 'just shoot me' column focused on some quick and easy gifts you can make with all those photos you so diligently captured over the year!

3. seasonal photo cards (you can't see them that well in the mag but I loved how they turned out, a great gift and so easy to mass produce for teachers, etc)

I took my camera outside to see if I could get the starry effect and here it is, this is looking down my street, taken with my wide angle lens! See the street lights? Fun stuff!

Sometimes people email me out of the blue asking photography-related questions. If I know the answer, then I am always happy to share! This particular email asked me if I knew how to get this effect:

starry Christmas lights are so pretty aren't they? and so easy to capture!

Here's how I got this photo:

1. Set you camera to manual.

2. My settings were: ISO 100, f/22 and my shutter speed was sloooooooooow! 30.0 seconds!

3. So yes, in order to support that very slow ss you need to put your camera on a tripod. if you don't have a tripod, use a table or something to place your camera on.

4. If you have a remote, then use that, if not, use the timed setting.

5. So, just compose your shot, take the photo and move away from the camera!

I used my Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens for this shot. Let me know how you make out!
 

letterbox!

Have you seen the new letterbox line by American Crafts? It is absolutely stunning. They were generous enough to send me a great big box of it, and I haven't had a chance to do it justice lately - no free time :(  But it kept calling my name, and I had this idea brewing for a page about Emma. This is actually a quote from this Led Zeppelin song. Reminds me of her every single time I hear it, and I hear it a lot because she is, as I was in high school, a big Led Zeppelin fan.

Anyways, back to letterbox. It's beautiful, it's versatile and as soon as this crazy season is behind us, I'll be back with more!

A fun shoot!

I haven't been doing very many shoots, by choice, just because my 'real' life job and commitments have been keeping me busy, and I was feeling a bit burnt out creatively. But when my friends or family call, I am always happy to oblige! I met Kelly and her family almost exactly 2 years ago, when we captured these wonderful shots. I then was invited back for these! Last summer, we did this shoot with some extended family thrown in! When I told Kelly my weekends were jammed, she and her family came up to see me! So, this client I definitely consider a friend, and they are a dream to work with, they just let me do my thing!  Here are some favourites from the shoot:
